Mindful Veterinary Practice – A Discussion of wellness in our industry

Presented by Dr. Trisha Dowling from the University of Saskatchewan

Dr. Trisha Dowling is a veterinarian and professor of veterinary clinical pharmacology at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She graduated from Texas A&M in 1983 (BS Animal Science) and 1987 (DVM). After a residency and Master’s at Auburn University, she became a board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the American College of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology. She has been teaching veterinary pharmacology at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine since 1993 and has received numerous teaching awards including the Norden Distinguished Professor award and the Provost’s Teaching Excellence Award.

The event will focus on how to handle personal wellness as a professional in the veterinary industry touching on important subjects such as imposter syndrome and compassion fatigue which veterinary professionals face every day.

CPVMA 5K Pet WAlk-a-thon

April 1st 2023 @ 2pm EST

Join us on April 1st at 2pm EST at our first fundraising event! Where: All Across Canada! This year, we are so excited to be collaborating with Humane Society Yukon to raise money for BOTH pre-veterinary students and animals in need. How does it work? Get together with your local furry friends and family and embark on a 5km walk of your own. Enjoy the outdoors and share your walk by tagging @cpvma.acpmv in all your pictures and videos. All proceeds from the $20.00 registration fee will go to help support our pre-vets and animals in need.

Nutrition Workshop

Raw Diets for Dogs and Cats: Are they a healthy choice? Presented by Dr. Julia Pezzali !

After pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine (2017) in Brazil, Dr. Julia Pezzali moved to the United States where she earned a MSc degree (2019) in companion animal nutrition under Dr. Greg Aldrich, with a focus on pet food processing and dog nutrition, from Kansas State University. She then earned a Ph.D. (2022) in animal science at the University of Guelph, Canada, under Dr. Anna Kate Shoveller with a focus on cat nutrition and metabolism. Dr. Pezzali has more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and extensive training and experience with both pet food processing and companion animal nutrition/metabolism research. Aside from her passion for animal nutrition, Dr. Pezzali enjoys learning about neuroscience and spending time with the cutest cat in the world, her cat Colbey!
